1) The Stanley Hotel (Colorado, USA) Worlds Most Haunted Place
This is the place that inspired the famous horror writer Stephen King to write The Shining. King stayed in room number 217 in the hotel and heard ghost children playing in the hallway. The guests have also reported hearing piano sounds from the ballroom or sounds of people partying but finding it empty upon inspection.
2) Edinburgh Castle(Edinburgh, Scotland)
Medieval castles in Europe are always a tourist attraction, thanks to their long and popular history. This castle is however famous for a lot more. Visitors have reported seeing colonial prisoners from the American Revolution. The most famous spirit, however, is the ghost of a piper who was sent to explore the tunnels and never returned, one of the most haunted places in the count.

3) The Catacombs (Paris, France)
The catacombs of Paris hold the dead remains of more than 6 million people. The site is essentially a mass grave. As if that wasn’t enough, it is believed that revolutionaries hunted down and massacred a large group of monarchs in these tunnels. With that much death and that much history, how can this place not be haunted?
4) The RMS Queen Mary (Long Beach, USA)
Once a prominent ocean liner, the ship is now believed to be home to many distraught and restless souls. The most haunted area of the ship is the engine room where a seventeen-year-old sailor died trying to escape a fire. Cabin B340 is an area haunted by the spirit of a murder victim, where a girl haunts the pool area where she was allegedly drowned.
5) Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary (San Fransisco Bay, California, USA)
Long before Alcatraz was a prison it was referred to as evil island in the native American legends and those who did time on the island agree. There are numerous reports of ghosts encounters in the utility corridor, where three inmates were killed in a failed escape attempt. Cell 14D is another haunted area of the prison where an inmate once spent a night calling out that he was being murdered by a creature with glowing eyes. Lo and behold, the next morning he was found dead in his cell.
6) Borley Rectory (Essex, England)
The village of Borley doesn’t appear to be a place you’d associate with ghosts but it is home to Borley Rectory, one of the most famous haunted houses in England. An ancient monastery, the rectory has been haunted since it witnessed the murder of a monk and a nun once their affair was discovered. The nun allegedly haunts the upper levels of the rectory. Other paranormal activities such as the ringing of bells, breaking of glass and screaming sounds are often heard by visitors which, not to mention, send shivers down their very core.

7) The Myrtles Plantation (Louisiana, USA)
The plantation is rumored to be located on an ancient Indian burial ground and is said to be home to 12 ghosts including Chloe, a former slave. She was allegedly caught spying on her owner for which she was lashed and her ear was cut off. As an act of revenge, she poisoned the birthday cake but only the owner’s wife and children ate it resulting in their death. Chloe was hanged and thrown in the Mississipi river and her spirit makes the plantation haunted places to this day.
8) Wavery Hills Sanatorium (Kentucky, USA)
It was built to handle the outbreak of tuberculosis and reports state that over 60,000 people died in this place. Room 502 is also rumored to be haunted by a nurse who committed suicide with a lightbulb wire. The hospital also had a death tunnel where the patients were the dead were lowered down through a chute to prevent patients from seeing how many have died from the disease. The hospital remains abandoned and haunted to this day, which makes it one of the most haunted places in the world.
9) Eastern State Penitentiary (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA)
This place was home to some of the harshest punishments in the USA including the water bath, the mad chair, and the iron gag. The first prison to use solitary confinement, many of its prisoners went insane because of its extreme conditions and isolation. Many people have heard ghastly screams from cell block 4 and many have seen ghostly apparitions in cell block 12.

10) Bhangarh Fort (Alwar, Rajasthan, India)
Once a bustling area full of colors, markets and people, the Bhangarh Fort now stands dissolute and in tatters – a haunted site. The legend has it that a priest who used to live near the fort was killed by the king and in his last moments, he cursed the fort. Many died following the curse and the remaining deserted the area. Bhangarh Fort is now considered the most haunted site in India and there is even an advisory board placed outside by the Indian army. People are not allowed to enter or stay in the fort after sunset as many people who have done so have reportedly gone missing. Even if you don’t get to spot a ghost, the constant howling of the hyenas would be enough to creep you out.
