Review

This movie was a bit of a gamble for Marvel because a lot of these characters aren’t as well known as Captain America or Iron Man. Who are guardians of the galaxy? They are a ragtag group of outlaws who come together because they have one thing in common – they do not like Ronan.

Unlike all other movies that begin with this basic plot, Guardians of the Galaxy is awesome. It is Marvel’s funniest movie ever. Every other scene will have you gut-busting laughing. This movie is just as much a comedy as it is an action-adventure movie. In fact, the comedy overweighs it to a point that you can just call it a comedy. And jokes are very clever and well constructed as well because it takes those genre clichés like countdowns, stare-downs, and standoffs and then does something completely unexpected and hilarious.

Chris Pratt is fantastic in this movie, not just because he is funny but also because his character has got a lot of heart. He is kind of an amalgamation of Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones which makes you want to root for him. Zoe Saldana is amazing as Gamora and she adds a lot of depth to the movie. Talking of depth, Dave Batista as Drax is awesome. His character is funny but he also has a lot of depth to him.

Groot doesn’t say much in the movie (pun intended), but he has a really likable presence. He is kind of like Chewbacca except with more humor. Finally, Rocket Raccoon is just incredible. He could very well be the Jar Jar Binx of the movie. Rocket Raccoon is one of the coolest if not the coolest characters in the movie, and Bradley Cooper’s voice makes it flawless.

There is also an emotional pull to the movie which we cannot share without spoiling the movie. But the characters are so well developed that you want to get behind them and root for them to win. The villain of the movie is a very serious character, which would be our only criticism of the movie. He is just a bad guy who does bad stuff and kind of doesn’t sit well with the theme.

Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most entertaining movies you’ll ever see. It is endlessly enjoyable to watch. The special effects are terrific and the 3D is also very good, not to mention the soundtrack. There’s so much to this movie. It’s like all your favorite movies packed into one movie and it explodes with awesomeness.
