Review
This film had a lot to live up to because Revenge of the Fallen was awful. This movie opens up connecting the moon landing and JFK with the Transformers lore. Apparently, Sentinel Prime crashed on the moon and was trapped there for quite some time. They end up freeing Sentinel Prime, eventually causing serious havoc. Dark of the Moon is weird because you can tell that Michael Bay (the director) and his writing team are trying to make a better movie than the last one. They’ve taken some of the criticism and it shows; they’ve removed a lot of really terrible humor.

That being said, it’s been replaced by a first act and a second act that’s rather dull. It’s sad really because Bay and his writing team are trying to make a better film with a more coherent narrative. This time around, they have streamlined it somewhat better; they try to focus on the moon landing stuff and how that relates to transformers and their past, and how that’s all going to come back now. But this film gets really bogged down in Sam trying to find a job because his new girlfriend is very rich and she works for Patrick Demsy, who’s also very rich and likes to give her cars and expensive meals. This is all the stuff that nobody asked for.
However, taking nothing away from Shia LaBeouf, it must be mentioned that he played his role superbly. He does a better job than the last movie and we hold nothing against him. However, Sam having a new girlfriend is something uncalled for. If Megan Fox didn’t want to work, they could’ve just kept him single. That would’ve made things considerably better.

Those are the major issues in the first half of the movie. Sam trying to find a job; his girlfriend problem; Patrick Demsy making a love triangle; can he make enough money to support his girlfriend? And while the first half is dull, the second half is non stop action where the city of Chicago gets taken over by the Decepticons. That’s when the movie finally picks up and we have a lot of Transformers awesomeness, and to be honest, that’s all we care about seeing. The visuals, the sound effects, and CGI are all that you’d expect from a Michael Bay movie.
The finale actually is quite a bit of fun and technically well assembled and this movie is definitely better than the last installment. So if you were able to sit through Revenge of the Fallen, then it makes no sense to give this one a try.
